Bisazza Italy

Founded in 1956, BISAZZA lead the world in creating the most innovative GLASS MOSAIC products. From its beginnings as a local business carrying on the tradition of Italian ARTS-AND-CRAFTS industries, BISAZZA has developed into a manufacturing concern at the leading edge, characterized by a strong entrepreneurial spirit, an ability to see the way the market is evolving and a readiness to exploit modern manufacturing techniques. Over the years, the company has always pursued a dual objective: The preservation and rediscovery of the processes and techniques typifying the Venetian Mosaic tradition and constant technological renewal.

In addition to the classic glass mosaic produced industrially in paper-faced Tessera Format, the name of BISAZZA is associated with speciality mosaics featuring 24 carat gold and traditional vitreous glaze finishes (hand-cut), also with Avventurina, a synthetic stone developed in Venice during the 17th Century - which gives a glittering jewel-like effect to the glass mosaic.

BISAZZA has also developed a collection of slab products, utilising glass agglomerates in its own wide colour palette, to produce a variety of Terrazo-style tiles.

Bisazza products are used in public sector contracting, for construction and refurbishment generally, in residential buildings for interior and exterior walls and floors, swimming pools, fitness and wellness centres and, increasingly nowadays, in hotels and on cruise-ships.

The craft tradition continues to characterize mosaics for mosques, friezes and similar ornamentation, and decorative artistic compositions.

BISAZZA is headquartered at Alte, in the northern Italian province of Vicenza, the company has three other production facilities and eight branches in Australia, France, Hong Kong, India, The Philippines, Spain, The UK and the USA.

Residential

The versatility of the 6.5mm SURFACESTONE makes it suitable for new kitchen benchtops, new bathroom vanity tops, splashbacks and entire wall cladding.

Architects, Interior Designers and Home Renovators are limited in the use of SURFACESTONE only by the limits of their imagination.

The SURFACESTONE collection of 3 metre long by 1.25 wide by 6.5mm slabs of glass, quartz or granite are available in many fashion colours and have one distinct advantage over traditional materials.

This advantage makes it possible to lay Surfacestone slabs, cut to size, directly over the top of laminates or other benchtop finishing materials, without having to remove the existing benchtops. This benefit saves money and time. Of course the material can be cut and prepared for use in brand new kitchens.

Care and maintenance of Surfacestone products

A feature of all Surfacestone products is the diamond polishing technology that give the products a high-gloss finish.

To ensure this gloss finish is maintained, a few basic care protocols should be observed.

  • Use only mild detergents with a damp cloth.
  • For stubborn marks, a diluted liquid bleach may be used with a damp cloth.
  • Do not use scourers, steel wool or abrasive cleaners on Surfacestone products.
  • Do not leave food and liquid spills overnight. Clean them immediately.
  • Do not spill on or wipe with acids, alkalines, solvents, acetone or acetone-based craft glues as these chemicals may cause damage.

Frequently asked questions:

Q: What is Surfacestone?

A: Surfacestone and quartz slabs are innovative products made by mixing natural granite or quartz aggregate bonded together with an organic amalgam. It's main characteristics are low thickness, impermeability and resistance to wear.

The manufacturing process produces a surface which is hard-wearing, natural in appearance and provides versatile design alternatives.

The diamond polishing technology used in the finishing process of slab manufacture ensures a long-lasting lustre with minimal maintenance requirements.

Q: Is Surfacestone better than natural granite?

A: The advantage of Surfacestone over natural slab granite is that Surfacestone has the wonderful attributes of natural stone plus the genius of polymer technology. The result is a highly engineered slab product that has many more use applications than does natural granite. The hairline fault cracks, water absorption and the brittleness that occur in natural granite are overcome in the engineering process of Surfacestone.

Q: What are the Features and Benefits of Surfacestone?

  • A: Scratch Resistance: - Retains its natural shine and is resistant to chipping and scratching.
  • Heat Resistance: - Resistant to heat for short periods. Accidental placement of hot pans on benchtop surface will not damage surface.
  • Stain Resistance: - Resists most forms of staining. Spills should be wiped off immediately to ensure your benchtop retains its beautiful appearance.
  • Colours: - Surfacestone is the fashion accessory for every kitchen. Our colours are the latest in modern kitchen and bathroom design, from the beauty of whites and sand to the ever-popular nero black.
  • Twelve Year Warranty: - We afford you peace-of-mind with our twelve (12) year manufacturers warranty on Surfacestone products.
  • Diversity of Use: - Surfacestone can be used on kitchen benchtops, bathroom vanity tops, wall cladding, makeovers or retro-fitting over existing surfaces. The 6.5mm thickness of Surfacestone gives architects and designers unlimited scope of use.

Q: Is Surfacestone used only on new benchtops?

A: No. Because Surfacestone is only 6.5mm thick, it is widely used in kitchen benchtop makeovers. We simply lay the 6.5mm slabs over the top of your existing benchtop surface and edges. This fantastic process overcomes the need to remove or demolish your existing benchtop. We can also lay Surfacestone over the top of existing splashbacks.

Bathroom shower recesses are another use for Surfacestone 6.5mm slabs. The slabs are overlayed on top of the shower recess tiles.

Q: Does Surfacestone cost more than natural granite or other engineered stone or quartz slabs ?

A: Surfacestone is very reasonably priced when compared to other solid surface products. Our distributors offer obligation-free quotations on any project you may have in mind, whether it is a completely new kitchen or a makeover of your existing kitchen.

You may wish to just install a new benchtop or do a makeover of your existing benchtop.

Q: Can I have a bullnose edge finish with my Surfacestone benchtop?

A: Surfacestone benchtops come with the modern square edge finish. Most architects and interior designers now request the square-edge finish.
